• The place which is strongly connected with John Paul II is Lagiewniki - Sanctuary of Divine Mercy. On 18th April, 1993 as a Pope, he beatified the sister Faustyna Kowalska. In the year 2000, in Rome, John Paul II canonized this polish mystic and he established the holiday of Divine Mercy (1st Sunday after the Easter). Sister Faustyna (1905-1938) was staying in convent of Łagiewniki for a few years. She was working as a gardener and cook. Sister Faustyna wrote „The Diary”. Eugeniusz Kazimierzowski was the person who decided to make a picture according to sister’s vision. After Faustyna’s death, due to her diary, local cult of God’s Mercy had become. The popularity of Sanctuary, the pilgrimages of thousand of faithful people and the papal mission of John Paul II caused the need to build new sanctuary. Nowadays crowds of people from all over the world go there just to ask for mercy... and we can go there during our trip and that will be unforgettable event...
