Salt Mine Tour - The Miracle of the World.
The Salt Mine in Wieliczka is the oldest European mine still operating today, and an international tourist attraction. It has been visited for several centuries. In 1774, first stairs for visitors were built. Presently, tourists may visit an underground route of 2 km length, which leads through post-exploitation chambers, underground lakes, a museum of antique mining equipment and tools, as well as chapels decorated with salt statues. The greatest and the largest is St.Kinga's Chapel, located over 100 meters deep underground, which can house 500 people. In 1978 the Salt Mine in Wieliczka was entered onto the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Advice for visitors:
•Touring is taken place only under guardianship. 
•Fee for possibilty to take pictures amounts 10 zl.
•Touring touristic route – 20 monumental caves, 2km of sidewalks and underground exposition of the Museum of Zupy Krakowskie located on the third level of mine, last about 2,5 hours.
•To mine you walk downstairs (378 stairs) on the first level. 
•Coming back to the surface is undergoing with lift with mineshaft of Danilowicz from the third level
•Temperature is stable and it is about 14C, therefore when touring the mine in summer, some warm clothes must be taken.
•In the mine there is absolute prohibition for smoking and use any opened source of the light and also it is forbidden to use electric torches.
•Salt Mine is also available for disabled people. The range of touring the mine depends on degree of the motor efficiency.

Salt Mine in Wieliczka is available for touring everyday at hours:
•from 7.30 to 19.30 (01.IV – 31.X)
•from 8.00 to 17.00 (02.XI – 31.III)
Except: 1st of January, first day of Easter, 1st of November, 24th, 25th & 31st of December.
