Wislawa Szymborska - A prominent poet who was awarded the 1996 Nobel Prize for Literature, Szymborska's links with Cracow span over 50 years.
Czeslaw Milosz - A poet, translator, Nobel Prize winner and honorary doctor of Jagiellonian University. Milosz was made honorary citizen of Cracow in 1993
Slawomir Mrozek - An outstanding playwriter and satirist. Mrozek began his carrer in Cracow as a journalist. After many years abroad, he returned and settled here in 1996.

Andrzej Wajda - A leading film and theatre director. Wajda was educated in Cracow. He was the main instigator of the Japanese Center of Art and Technology, one of the city's best museums "Manggha". Wajda won an Oscar for Lifetime Achievement in 2000. Last film "Katyn".
